The Swiss Cycling Alpenbrevet 2023 had the pleasure of welcoming the Wheels of Motion team to Andermatt on Saturday 2nd September. “Wheels of Motion is a bike tour for people who might not be considered capable of such a tour. 7,000 metres of altitude and 350 kilometres were tackled over six days,” says Michael Haller, founder and Project Manager of Wheels of Motion. On the first two stages of the six-day tour, they traversed the Alpenbrevet passes Gotthard and Lukmanier. The route gave the 14-strong Wheels of Motion team a real taste of the Alpenbrevet air, particularly on Saturday.
“When the detailed planning of the tour began, Michael contacted me to ask if it would be possible to start their tour in Andermatt and ride it as part of the Alpenbrevet,” recalls Patrick Huber, Alpenbrevet Project Manager. “I didn’t need much thinking time before the concept of the Alpenbrevet Hero Tour was born,” Huber continues. Special start numbers were made without delay for the Wheels of Motion Tour and distributed along with an Alpenbrevet jersey to the participants at the start. “Seeing those smiling faces as we handed out the start numbers was priceless for me,” says the Alpenbrevet Project Manager happily. The troop was sent off with loud vocal support from the DJ and the speaker.
“Sometimes, when we all work together we can achieve much more than we might think. The team behind Alpenbrevet has contributed to a great sense of achievement and many moving moments. We received a very warm welcome in Andermatt and our project for people with mental and physical difficulties was approached with sensitivity. Participating in the Alpenbrevet was a highlight for our members. The cycling community has shown how inclusion is lived – with deeds and not just words,” says Wheels of Motion Project Manager Haller.
